Dear Parent or Guardian,
It is with great pleasure that Excelsior Preparatory High School invites you to attend our Transition Orientation. This is an information session with Queens ACCES -Vocational Rehabilitation, CUNY LEADS, Job Corps and other agencies. ACCES is an organization with resources and services available to people of all ages who have received special education services. The services that ACCES offers include transition services for students with disabilities from high school to adulthood. The transition services include an extensive vocational assessment, financial aid for college and career training. Job Corps offers young adults job training programs and skill training to help them to be successful in the world of work. Along with this, they also offer young people a stipend and other financial incentives while in the program. CUNY LEADS is a program for students enrolled in any of the colleges in the City University of NY. It is geared towards helping students with special needs develop the skills they need to be successful in their careers.
It is very important for you, the parent or guardian of a child with an IEP, to attend this orientation on Thursday, March 17, 2026, at 10:30 am. It will be held at Excelsior Preparatory High School, Springfield Gardens Educational Campus, in the library.
This gathering is for 11th and 12th grade students and their parents. The knowledge you will obtain by attending this meeting will help you and your child as you make decisions concerning his or her transition into adulthood. The representatives from these organizations will explain the services they provide and the application process. Please bring the child’s birth certificate, social security card, and green card to help us create a transition portfolio which each child will need when applying to these programs. I look forward to seeing you at this orientation.
Sincerely,
