Use the attached document to develop your ideas, and then develop a paragraph about the central idea of the "I Have a Dream" speech.

DIRECTIONS: Complete the left side of the attached worksheet to gather ideas about Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a Dream" speech. On the same document (second page) develop a paragraph that discusses how MLK Jr. uses a literary device to enhance his speech and develop the central idea. Here are some tips:

A central idea is a message that the writer (or speaker, in this case) wants listeners to hear.
Literary devices are the things that help develop a central idea. The ones we've most recently studied include:
Imagery- language used to evoke the 5 senses in a reader or listener
Metaphor- Comparing two items that are not similar in order to clarify something to a listener
Tone- The emotion felt through the words of a speech or text

The attached document includes all directions and space for you to complete today's mini-essay. Remember to use your compare/contrast skills as you write.

Make sure you complete this reading today, and do not forget your sticky note at the end of class!

While you read each article, highlight quotes that discuss the benefits and disadvantages of playing video games. Additionally, follow these directions for each article.

1- "Games for Change"- Complete all 5 steps. The writing step will be used later this week.
2- "Can Video Games Teach?" - Just complete your reading, annotations, and answer the 8 multiple choice questions. You do NOT need to complete the writing for this assignment.

Another Chance at a Better Life - Achieve 3000

Use yesterday's activity to find instances of literary devices in the story "Tobermory". Then, develop at least one paragraph where you explain how those literary devices help to develop humor or tragedy throughout the story.
